As part of Arizona Highways' feature on the Japanese Friendship Garden, tea instructor Eiko Matsuura invites guests inside Musoan, our traditional tea house and the quiet heart of the Garden.
In this video, Eiko offers an introduction to how tea is prepared, paired, and appreciated in Japanese culture. Exploring three distinct varieties, she shares the stories and traditions woven into each cup, tracing the history of tea culture in Japan and the intentionality that shapes every sip.
Tea Tasting is offered every Tuesday, September through May, and invites guests to slow down, savor, and discover the depth and warmth of Japanese tea culture. For those drawn to a more formal practice, a traditional tea ceremony, Chanoyu, is also available at the Garden. You can explore all of our tea programs below:

I loved how the blog highlighted the serene aspects of Japanese tea culture! It’s fascinating to see how rituals can shape our understanding of level devil mindfulness. I think adding more personal anecdotes from visitors could deepen that connection even further like moments when they felt truly present in the tea house. What do you think?
What a wonderful post! I recently attended a tea ceremony in Kyoto, and it truly changed my perspective on mindfulness. The attention to detail you highlighted is so essential in Japanese culture. It's like playing a level in a game where every move counts! Can't wait to explore more about the tea experience at your garden!
