Art & Sake: An Evening with Chindonya Bentenya, live from Aichi, Japan

Description: 

Spend an evening in the Garden with Chindonya, a vibrant Japanese street performance tradition with roughly 150 years of history. The Japanese Friendship Garden welcomes Bentenya, a professional all-female Chindonya troupe from Aichi, Japan, known for their colorful costumes, energetic musicianship, and playful blend of traditional Japanese music and popular song. 

Guests are invited to stroll the Garden, enjoy a sake experience, and settle in for a lively evening of live music and performance under the autumn sky — a rare chance to experience an art form still performed on the streets of Japan today. 

Bentenya is currently touring the U.S. as part of a Japan–U.S. cultural exchange project, and their stop at the Garden offers a unique opportunity to welcome working performers from Japan directly to Phoenix.
