About the Event

Find beauty in imperfection in our Kintsugi workshop. Kintsugi transforms shattered ceramics into exquisite masterpieces using gold lacquer, honoring their history and creating something even more beautiful.

At the heart of Kintsugi lies the profound Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, where imperfections are not only accepted but cherished. Embracing this philosophy, our 2.5 hours workshop highlights the inherent beauty of flaws, recognizing that brokenness and repair are integral parts of an object's story. Through the delicate art of Kintsugi, we pay homage to the passage of time, the ephemeral nature of existence, and the transformative power found within impermanence.

Under the guidance of esteemed instructor Kat McDowell, you will learn a modern approach to Kintsugi that utilizes a safe and fast-drying Urushi (lacquer) made from cashew. Drawing on traditional techniques while adapting to modern needs, Kat's expertise ensures a fulfilling and engaging experience, allowing you to create stunning Kintsugi repairs to your personal pieces that honor their history.

In addition to the hands-on learning experience, you will receive a Kintsugi kit to take home. This kit includes ample cashew lacquer imported from Japan, enabling you to mend over 20 small items and continue your journey of embracing imperfection and weaving together stories of beauty and resilience. Take this opportunity to explore the ancient art of Kintsugi, and immerse yourself in the beautiful philosophy of wabi-sabi.

The class will be cancelled if we do not meet minimum enrollment.
