About the Event

Training bonsai trees is a fascinating art form that combines horticultural techniques and Japanese aesthetics in a unique way. The word “Bonsai” means a pot (bon) that holds a plant (sai), however bonsai are not simply potted plants! They are a miniaturized but realistic representation of nature in the form of a tree. Most commonly kept under four feet in height, through techniques such as pinching buds, pruning and wiring branches, and carefully restricting fertilizers to limit and direct growth. The special techniques used have been around for well over a thousand years.

In this lecture for beginners, you will learn all aspects of the art of bonsai includes its history, techniques, how to choose a plant and pot, as well as all the keys to basic maintenance for desert climate. At the end, we will hold a lively Q & A session, so you will have a chance to ask any questions you might have. No experience required is required, everyone is welcome to enter into this fascinating world of miniature trees with us.

Bonsai for Beginners will be presented by the Phoenix Bonsai Society whose objectives are-

  • to study, foster and encourage the enjoyment of the art of Bonsai
  • to assemble and make available information on the culture of bonsai
  • to promote the collection and exhibition of Bonsai
  • to acquaint Bonsai fanciers with each other

Join this lecture from the knowledgeable and experienced members of PBS.
