Sōran Bushi is a traditional Japanese folk song and dance from Hokkaido, originally sung by fishermen as a work song while hauling nets. It’s one of the most famous min’yō (folk songs) in Japan.

💃 Key Features:

  • The dance mimics the movements of fishermen: pulling in nets, lifting heavy loads, waves, and seagulls.

  • The modern version is stylized and powerful, often performed by school students.

  • Common calls during the dance include: ➤ "DOKKOI SHO!" ➤ "SO-RAN! SO-RAN!" These are traditional work shouts to keep rhythm.
