Inspirational Ikebana

Japanese flower arrangement

Ikebana (生け花, 活け花, "arranging flowers" or "making flowers alive") is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. It is also known as Kadō (華道, "way of flowers").

Flowers brighten your days.
Learn traditional Japanese flower art, Ikebana, in our beautiful garden.
Lead by master Ikebana teacher, Ping Wei, you will learn the essential Japanese flower arranging and the meaning of flowers.

The workshop includes three parts. First, Ping Wei sensei will discuss the principles of ikebana while demonstrating examples of flower setting. Second, you will do your own creations with your free spirits. Then Ping Wei sensei will conduct evaluation of your arrangements to help you further understand Ikebana aesthetics.

All floral materials are provided except containers. Bring your own container.

Wabi Sabi Pottery

Hand Formed Tea Bowls

Wabi sabi, the acceptance of transience and imperfection is deeply rooted in Japanese culture and aesthetics. In tea bowls, irregularities and imperfections are prized: they are often featured prominently as the "front" of the bowl. In this workshop, we are going to use the traditional method in pottery to make tea bowls. Come to experience wabi sabi, and make your own tea bowls.

Your instructor Ping Wei will demonstrate the process of making pinched bowls first. You will have enough time to make a tea cup and a tea bowl. All materials are included. After the workshop, Ping Wei will have your pieces fired and ready for you to pick up in three weeks.
