First Friday 2017-18

Please join us after hours every First Friday of the month when the garden.  The hours will depend on time of year so please always check our event page here and on Facebook for accurate times. The Japanese Friendship Garden will offer live music, performances and much more! Our Japanese Bar offering Happy Hour prices will always be going and our lovely gift shop will be open! 

Free parking and a Free admission! (Donations Welcome!!)

Please join us for our First Friday Event on the first Friday of every month when the garden is open after hours. First Friday runs from 4:00pm until 6:00 pm. Drinks will be sold and the gift shop will be open!

Join us in our authentic Japanese Garden for the opportunity to meet and mingle with other Japanese language and culture enthusiasts. 

There will be a variety of fun topics to learn and practice your knowledge in a relaxed friendly setting. 

This is our first year offering "Cool Nihongo". We encourage this group to be a mix of culture enthusiasts, language learners, and native speakers.  If you are interested in Japanese culture or language and want to meet others who are as well, join us!  We look forward to meeting you!

Holiday Jazz & Wine in the Garden

Step out and groove in our traditional Japanese Garden while enjoying live jazz, wine sampling, lantern display and happy hour.

Jazz pianist Beth Lederman and her company will perform wonderful music at the garden.

Wine sampling from several vendors will take place and of course our Japanese Bar will be stocked and ready for Happy Hour! See you there!

Beth Lederman

She is well-known for her sophisticated jazz and rhythmic Brazilian and Latin-jazz piano styles, not only in the Phoenix area, but throughout the Western U.S. from Canada to Mexico. She has been playing professionally for more than twenty years, leading several bands and playing with such well-known names as The Diamonds, Bobbie Vinton, and the Drifters, as well as with local artists such as Dave Cook, Pete Pancrazi, Alice Tatum, Dennis Rowland, Renee Patrick, Paul McDermand, and her own groups, Jazz Con Alma and Novo Mundo.

Her music is melodic, fun, fluid, passionate, innovative, heartfelt, rhythmic, eclectic, honest, artistic, humorous, spontaneous…and great!

Organized by Ken Koshio, practice will begin for this exciting part of Matsuri! All ages. Welcome to join in on the dancing fun! Everyone is also welcome to participate the Matsuri Parade!!!

The Arizona Matsuri is an annual festival which celebrates Japanese culture and heritage, traditional and modern. The two-day event held at Heritage & Science Park in downtown Phoenix features the sights and sounds of Japan, art, crafts, music, dance and much more. The family friendly Matsuri is free to all. Japanese food and goods from over 60 vendors are available for purchase and the beer and sake garden is a great place to relax. The Arizona Matsuri was first held in 1984 and will be celebrating its 34nd anniversary in 2018.
